The original Indian Overseas Congress (I) UK which was inaugurated by S Amrao Singh MP Jallandhar in the 1970's whose founder president was Late S. Piara Singh Uppal, has been given a Tremendous boost by the Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh at a Meeting on Friday 8th July in London.

The national president Mr Bhagwan Dass Badhan, general secretary Avtar Singh Sandhu and their executive members were one of a very few hand Picked organisation that the PM chose to meet during his brief stay in London following the G8 summit. During the meeting the PM praised the work of the Overseas Congress and was overwhelmed by the organisations Youth Congress wing which was represented at the meeting by its general secretary Ragbhir Singh Sandhu, he went on to say that although the Indian youth in the UK may well be British Citizens, it is vital that they should not forget their roots and should strengthen their links with India and bring in new ideas into the country. Discussions also included NRI issues especially the implementation of the dual nationality to benefit the whole of the community in he UK, to which the PM said the legislation has been approved to speed up the process

During the meeting Mr Badhan presented the PM with a small gift from the Organisation and a certificate of Honour on behalf of his ever Strengthening organisation. The members introduced by Mr Badhan were, Avtar Singh Sandhu, Jagtar Singh Panesar, Inderjeet Singh Dassaur, Manohar Bhatia, Sukhdev Singh Komal, Jagdish Mitter, Youth Congerss General Secretary Ragbhir Singh Sandhu The meeting was meeting was a great success said Mr Badhan.

The Indian Overseas Congress (I) UK officially launched its East London branch. The event took place on Saturday 25th June at 5pm in Manor Park, East London. This branch is a sub branch of the already established London & South East England Branch. Chief guest at the event, National President Mr Bhagwan Dass Badhan and National General Secretary Mr Avtar Singh Sandhu, were both received by the East London Branch members with garlands. In his address to the gathering, Mr Badhan said "I am pleased to accept this branch under our banner, this provides more strength and stability for the Overseas Congress in the UK." He then went on to congratulate the branch members and said his national executives are looking forward to working with the new members. National General Secretary, Mr Avtar Singh Sandhu said " The overseas congress is here to serve the Indian community anywhere in the world, our web site is full of useful information for the Indian community. This is a party for the people", he congratulated East London branch president Mr Avtar Heer and all his executive committee members at this historic launch. Others speakers to this event included Mr Stephen Timms MP, Cllr Amarjit Singh, Mr Ragbhir Sandhu General Secretary Youth Congress UK.

Indian Overseas Congress UK's Acting General Secretary, Mr Avtar Singh Sandhu had a meeting with Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh earlier today in New DELHI. The meeting was arranged at short notice and issues discussed included broadening and strengthening the relations between the congress party in India and the Overseas Congress in the UK. Mr Sandhu explained to the PM how under the new leadership of Mr Bhagwan Dass Badhan the party has gained tremendous strength in the UK.

He went on to explain to the PM about the Overseas Youth Congress also coming under their banner, he took the opportunity to explain to the PM about the organizations web site, membership cards and recently published news letter

The PM praised the Overseas Congress in the UK for their support and dedication to the Indian Congress Party. He explained how non resident Indians all over the world are a vital ingredient for the development of India. He sent his best wishes to the Indian Overseas Congress UK members and said he looked forward to working with Mr Sandhu and the Indian Overseas Congress UK.
